[12 kB] Scottish business award for spectroscopy expert D3 Technologies Ltd, a leader in Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS), and a subsidiary of world-leading metrology and spectroscopy company Renishaw plc, was honoured with a spin-out recognition award at the recent University of Strathclyde Enterprise Awards. The award recognised D3 for its work on trace detection used in drug development, forensic science and medical diagnostics. [15 kB] Breakthrough mobile technology relies on Renishaw encoders A revolutionary mobile phone antenna has been developed by UK company Sarantel, based on the company's patented PowerHelix™ technology. When other conductors or the user’s hand or head are next to the antenna, performance is completely unaffected, unlike conventional antennas. The unique manufacturing process uses a special purpose machine from Finnish company Citam Assembly Automatics Oy, fitted with Renishaw linear encoders to give very high accuracy. Mathew Favell joined Renishaw in 1987 aged just 16, and following his four year apprenticeship, held a wide range of technical and customer-facing positions within the company, including overseas projects.
